Siesta Key was not a planned location to visit after a business trip that brought myself and Robert on our journey from Orlando, Florida. We decided to extend our time traveling along the gulf coast by adding two extra days on our way home. We wanted to visit some of the beach locations we had heard about from others and read about online. After stopping at Mexico Beach, Sanibel Island, Captiva, and Apollo Beach, Robert and I found the hidden treasure of Siesta Key, Florida.
Located on a small island, you are instantly transported to a tropical paradise. While condos and apartments line the roads, you'll also find plenty of running/walking/biking paths, tennis courts as well as a beautifully maintained public park and beach access. With free parking, public restrooms, an on-site fast-food restaurant, picnic tables, volleyball nets and more, it's the perfect location to spend the day. The water was warm and clear. The beach as you can see in this picture is long and deep. The sand is pure like sugar, cool to walk on and firmly packed with no sea shells to hurt your feet. Perfect for the running races they hold there frequently on the beach. While Robert and I were there exploring, a Father/son 5K was being held. Talking with some of the spectators, we learned that the weather in Siesta Key stays warm almost all year long. Rarely going below 60, and hardly over 90. Robert and I both wished we could have stayed there longer. It would be a dream location to live in, and definitely a place worth visiting. Sometimes the best locations are the places that you never plan for and wish you could stay longer. If you ever find yourself in the area - take the time to visit Siesta Key, Florida.
